THE EARTH: AN OLD PLANET WITH NEW GUESTS: THE HUMANS
THE EARTH: CHRONOLOGY
FROM THE DINOSAURS TO THE FIRST HOMINIDS
Look at these illustrations carefully. They show different moments of the history of the Earth. Our planet was formed 4.500 billions of years ago, and it was a big ball of molten rock which cooled throughout the time. 3.600 millions of years ago the first living organisms appeared in the see and they were very simple, formed by a simple cell. The first pluricelular organisms (formed by many cells, like the jellyfish and the acuatic worms) appeared 700 million of years ago.
2.250 millions of years ago the earth was formed by only one continent called Pangea. This period is called the PALEOZOIC AGE, when the first animals began to appear.
Between 250 and 65 millions of years ago (THE MESOZOIC period: Triasic, Jurasic and Cretacic), the DINOSAURS appear, get their maximun development and become extinct, probably because of the impact of a huge meteorit. The first PRIMATES (the ancestors of the apes or monkeys) appeared on the Earth 35 million of years ago, and the first HOMINIDS (apes that begin to walk upright) appeared 4,5 millions of years ago.(the CENOZOIC period)..and this will be our starting point this year: the appearance of the first hominids and their evolution into our species, the HOMO SAPIENS SAPIENS.

- DRAW A TIME LINE FROM THE ORIGIN OF THE EARTH TO THE APPEARANCE OF THE FIRST HOMINIDS. IN YOUR TIME YOU MUST INCLUDE:
- The Earth’s birth
- The appearance of life (3.5 m.y.)
- The extinction of the Dinosaurs (65 m.y.)
- Appearance of the PRIMATES (35 m.y.)
- Appearance of the first HOMINID (Orrorin tunigensis)
